Frame the questions before everyone arrives and protect rehearsal from becoming an endless business discussion.

Build a decision agenda

Replace broad subjects with questions. “Shows” becomes “Do we accept the Friday support slot under the stated terms?” “Recording” becomes “Which two songs are ready for preproduction this month?” A question tells people what preparation matters and what closure looks like.

Limit the agenda to decisions that require this group. Status updates can often be shared beforehand. A detail owned by one person does not need a four-person debate unless it changes the band’s direction, money, risk, or commitments.

Bring the minimum useful evidence

Attach the offer, budget, calendar, demo, venue information, or other source the decision depends on. Separate what is known from what somebody assumes. When information is missing, decide whether the group can choose conditionally or whether one person must obtain the answer first.

Name the decision method

Bands do not all decide the same way. Some use consensus, some assign domains, and some have a leader with final responsibility. Trouble grows when the real method stays unspoken. For each question, identify who advises, who is affected, and who makes the final call under the band’s existing agreement.

Do not invent a voting rule in the middle of a disagreement. Serious disputes involving ownership, money, contracts, membership, or legal structure may need the band’s governing documents and qualified help.

Keep discussion tied to the question

Let the people closest to the issue explain it, then invite concerns from those affected. When conversation drifts, restate the decision. If a new issue is important but not required for today’s choice, put it in a parking list with an owner instead of allowing it to take over.

Rehearsal has a different job. Use a productive rehearsal plan to solve musical work, and schedule operational decisions separately whenever possible.

Record the choice in one sentence

Before moving on, say the decision aloud and write it down. Include conditions: “We accept if load-in is after 5:30 and the venue confirms the backline by Tuesday.” This catches the moment when four people appear to agree but are carrying different versions of the agreement.

Assign ownership, not vague teamwork

Every action needs one responsible person, even when several people will help. Record the due date, the expected result, and where it will be stored. “We should promote it” is not an assignment. “Maya sends the approved image and ticket link to the venue by Thursday” is.

Close with a short decision record

Send a compact record containing the date, attendees, decisions, action owners, deadlines, open questions, and next check. This is not a transcript. Its job is to stop the band from reopening settled details because nobody can find the answer.

At the next meeting, review actions before adding new topics. The test of a band meeting is not whether everybody spoke for an hour. It is whether the group can now act with less ambiguity than it had before.

Run a band meeting around a short decision list, separate discussion from ownership, and close with written choices, responsible people, and next check dates. […]

[96
103324,103199,103317
post-166863","post","type-post","status-publish","format-standard","has-post-thumbnail","category-music-sense","tag-band-management","tag-independent-musicians","tag-music-collaboration
["GET
